Ghanaian musician and filmmaker Samuel “Blitz the Ambassador” Bazawule and Oprah Winfrey collaborate to produce the musical adaptation of The Color Purple.
Blitz the Ambassador who co-directored BeyonceBlack is King visual album is hot on the reels to produce the musical adaptation of the acclaimed Alice Walker novel.
The film’s executive producers include Alice Walker and Rebecca Walker, Kristie Macosko Krieger, with Marcus Gardley writing the screenplay.
The Warner Bros musical film includes heavy-hitting names such as Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones  as producers. This project is personal for Oprah Winfrey, who starred in the 1985 drama adaptation of The Color Purple. Clearly, the actress turned media mogul is impressed with Bazawule being at the helm of the musical adaptation.

The film’s A-List Hollywood cast includes an Fantasia Barrino, Ciara, Halle Bailey, Taraji P. Henson and Colman Domingo.
Bazawule’s 2018 directorial debut The Burial of Kojo is Ghana’s first Golden Globes entry. It won the Best Narrative Feature (World Cinema) Award at HBO’s Urbanworld Film Festival, where it premiered.
The Color Purple by Samuel Bazawule started production this March 2022 and is set to be premiered in 2023.
