Award-winning rappers Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensah just teased a soft launch of the Black Star Line Festival 2023. In a pop-up event at Ghanaian streetwear brand Free the Youth’s boutique in Accra, Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensah announced the Black Star Line Festival.
The American rapper tweeted, “Black Star Line Festival. An appreciation of us. In the order of Marcus Garvey & Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Jan 6 @ Black Star Square
WE’LL SEE US THERE.”
In the spate of 2019’s Year of Return initiative, Ghana has witnessed an influx of Black American and British celebrities. Amongst them being A-List celebrities such as Idris Elba, Kendrick Lamar, Stefflon Don, T.I and Tiny, Ari Lennox and Steve Harvey.
While most visit Ghana for tourism and to connect with their roots some such as Kendrick Lamar have visited for artistic purposes.
Early on in the year, Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensah visited President Akuffo Addo to discuss how to deepen relations between the American diaspora and Ghana.
Ghana’s pre and post colonial history coupled with its strong diasporan ties makes the country one of the best locations for activating for cultural tourism. The country is seeing a rapidly progressive art and tourism resurgence.
