Check why iPhone 6 and WhatsApp are trending on Twitter today

Facebook (now Meta)-owned messaging app WhatsApp has some news for old OS smartphone users and it isn’t a great one. The messaging app for the past year keeps on rolling out updates to better its security and functionalities. While each update releases the minimum hardware requirements also expand with it. Now, they’ve rolled out a new feature that is set to cut out old smartphone operating system users.

According to reports, WhatsApp will remove support for some Android and iOS devices running on old OS versions from today amd Whatsapp will not work on some smartphones.

Devices that run on Android 4.0.4 and older versions will not support Whatsapp from today the 1st of November, 2021. It may be recalled that Icecream Sandwich update was released in 2011. Android smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Optimus L5 Dual, Optimus L4 II Dual, Optimus F7 and Optimus F5 will not feature WhatsApp functions.

The list of Android phones released by WhatsApp includes smartphones from several companies including Samsung, LG, ZTE, Huawei, Sony and Alcatel.

For iOS, WhatsApp will run on iOS 10 and newer versions. Any iPhone running on OS older than iOS 10 will not work from November 1. Apple iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, Apple iPhone SE (1st generation) will not support Whatsapp anymore.

Of course, Twitter loves a good cruise and banter. The platform was awash with hundreds of comments and posts under the hashtag #iPhone6. Some of them including savage heckling and taunts at iPhone 6 users. I mean, they never let up on Twitter for Android users so their day of reckoning has also come. Of course, all done in jest.
