This December, Ghana will finally get the skate park it has been waiting for.

The Freedom Skate Park, which will open in Accra in 2021, will be a cutting-edge skate park with Wi-Fi as well as training and coaching programs for the youth to ultimately catapult them into representing the country in international competitions.

The international projects was brought to fruition by Skate Nation, and Surf Ghana, an NGO that supports outdoor sports in the West African country with the help of the Late Virgil Abloh, Chief Creative Directorand founder of Off-White and Daily Paper Clothing, a pan-African fashion label

There will be a café with Wi-Fi, bathrooms, and a store that will not only sell serious equipment but also offer private lessons to beginners and employ local kids at Freedom Skate Park.

The park will be constructed and designed by Wonders Around the World, an international organization committed to making skateboarding accessible worldwide, and local architects Limbo Accra, and will be made of recycled and local materials and will provide lush and free-to-the-public green space right in the heart of the city.

Vans, the gold standard of skateboarding footwear, has promised to support a skateboarding education program.
