Meet AS Roma’s new Ghanaian born and bred whizkid Felix Afena Gyan

Felix Afena Gyan is the eighteen-year old Ghanaian striker at AS Roma that everyone cannot get enough of. It is safe to say that Wednesday, 28th of October, 2021 is definitely a day that the young Ghanaian footballer will never forget.

Afena-Gyan became the second youngest debutant in the 2021/22 Serie A season after being subbed in. His debut for Roma’s senior team was against Cagliari in the Serie A.

Born and bred in Beposo in Wenchi, Afena Gyan completed his secondary education and Berekum Presec in 2019. His stellar football skill was shaped by years of training and playing for Wenchi-local juvenile teams Watomba 11 and Real Madrid. He furthered his training at the EurAfrica Academy which was established in 2018. The same academy that produced star-talents Ibrahim Mustapha of Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade and Abdul Rahim Alhassan who joined Portuguese side Sporting Braga.

As if in a whirlwind, Afena Gyan was spotted by AS Roma U-19 scouts and flown to Italy.

His skill and fervour earned him a good enough impression to have legendary manager Jose Mourinho promote him to the senior team. In Afena Gyan’s first ever game AS Roma made a 2-1 win against Cagliari. This is what the budding star had to say about his first game.

Congratulations, Afena Gyan. Gratitude is always a virtue made for men destined for great heights. Your meteoric rise is just at its start and Ghana and beyond look forward to seeing you take your place among the stars.
