7 times birthday boy Prez Akufo-Addo was the perfect gentleman in African prints

Today, March 30th is the 75th birthday of the first gentleman of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo. It’s no coincidence that Ghana month has to end on his birthday.

Born William Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, the president who is also a son of a former president, Edward Akufo-Addo of the 2nd Republic has always been known as stylish and dandy chap. The President’s love for ostentatious British suits and handkerchiefs inspired other young lawyers and a number of his devotees to follow his style.

Fast forward to his Presidency, the 75-year-old first gentleman has switched his style opting for wax-textiles in a bid to promote Made-in-Ghana goods. The move has been applauded by a lot of Ghanaians who felt the President was out of touch with his Ghanaian identity.

Since assuming the Presidency, he has been spotted wearing crisp and stylish handmade African print shirts to various public events, whiles receiving dignitaries from other countries and other national events. A big shout-out to the creative artisans who are in charge of creating those groovy looks.

Recently his choice of fugu to the installation of a new Ya-Na (king) of Dagbon caused a stir on social media as netizens were divided on the look. It was explained that his choice of outfit had a lot of significance in the ceremony.

The president is following in the footsteps of his predecessors including his former boss, J.A Kuffuor who encouraged Ghanaian to patronize made-in-Ghana goods by instituting the National Friday wear during his presidency. Other Presidents including the late J.E.A Mills and John Mahama continued this initiative which has seen surge in the patronage of Ghanaian goods.

Birthday Boy Akufo-Addo is on the quest to change Ghana and he is doing that one stylish African outfit at a time.
