Despite the effect of COVID-19 on its operations, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has been named the Best International Airport in Africa by the Airport Council Internationals Customer Experience Awards (ACICEA).

The feat was due to the size of the airport, it’s adherence to standards and high airport service quality.

Mr. Shawn Mendis, an aviation expert, claimed that this is extremely great news. He mentioned that the Airport must capitalize on it in order to achieve even greater success in the years ahead.

Industry experts have praised the Airport for its efforts in managing the airport and its activities since March 2020.

“In 2020, KIA was able to hold on traffic fell from slightly over 3.1 million to just about 1.5 million passengers last year, and that is still nothing compared to what many Airports around the world have done,” Mr Mendis added.

He praised the Ghana Airport Company Limited and urged them to keep working hard to retain their current status quo.

Meanwhile, statistics from the Ghana Airport Company Limited show that passenger numbers have increased by 5%. Even though COVID-19 caused some setbacks in the second and third quarters of the fiscal year in 2020, shrinking revenue.
