Zozibini Tunzi is the first black Miss South Africa to be crowned Miss Universe

Miss South Africa 2019, Zozibini Tunzi has entered the history books of beauty competitions after emerging as this year Miss Universe.

Zozibini, a 26-year old activist and PR beat competition from close to 90 women who were representing their various nations. Miss Puerto Rico and Miss Mexico placed second and third respectively at the event which was held in Atlanta at the newly-opened Tyler Perry Studios.

Zozibini, a proud black South African who is a huge advocate for black beauty and diversity stole the hearts of the audience with a passionate speech about diversity and its importance in the lives of young black girls especially.

“Society has been programmed for a very long time that never saw beauty in a way that was black girl magic, but now we are slowing moving to a time where women like myself can finally find a place in society, can finally know they’re beautiful” she said

She continued by outlining her plans for her home country by delivering what she called “a new, fresh and different perspective of what South Africa is” and seeking to advance her course by impacting other voices.

Tunzi joins the likes of Miss America, Miss U.S.A and Miss Teen U.S.A who are all black women and the first of their race to win a major beauty pageant.
