#RODR19: These promo photos from Rhythmz on Da Runway mixed Ghanaian tradition and fashion in an interesting way

For their promotional images and videos, the team from Rhythms on Da Runway went hard for the Ghanaian culture.

As “The Year of Return Edition”, Nineteen57 and KOD are doing everything right to sell Ghana to the world this August. From choosing the Osu Castle as venue for the fashion extravaganza to selecting a bevy of designers from the African continent, it is telling a poignant and riveting story.

The visuals show some of Ghana’s celebrated models and celebrity figures such as Prince IB, Misjulee, Mawuli Gavor, Regina Van-Helvert and Samirah Rennie adorn in kente, batakari and gold ornaments. These directional looks are an homage to the Gold Coast, Ghana’s former name before it gained independence in 1957. It borrows aesthetics from several parts of Ghana chiefly; the Akans, Northern region and Krobo’s

In their quest to be all-inclusive, they cast a Ghanaian model who suffered from Alopecia, a condition that affects the scalp and causes baldness.

Set in the old Post Office district, Accra High street, it was styled by celebrated beadist, Wendy L’Artisane, who created royal looks with beads and gold trinkets for the models. Twin Photographers of SwagofAfrica fame shot the looks that have since gone viral.

Rhythms on Da Runway will take place on the 31st of August, 2019 and will feature designers from across Africa including Ophelia Crossland, Velma’s Accessoires, Nineteen57 By KOD, Palse SA and MUDI Africa.
