Ghanaian editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful honoured by BOF as the 2019 Global voice

Edward Enninful, the British-Ghanaian editor of Vogue’s U.K version has been honored by the Business of Fashion as it’s Global Voice for 2019.

The event took place last weekend at a Gala night which saw attendance from fashion’s most important names such as Liam Payne, BoF Imran Amed, British actor Reggie Yates and a performance by Tiwa Savage.

According to the BOF, the award is in recognition of his contribution to the fashion industry and exemplary impact on the wider fashion media landscape.

The yearly VOICES event is BOF’s flagship initiative that engages celebrities, activists, and influencers in critical discussions about the fashion industry.

In an emotional acceptance speech, Edward Enninful celebrated his upbringing flanged by his friends on both sides.

“I’m so grateful to be from London. A bold city, with all the colourful and creative people I grew up alongside, including many of you in this room. London taught me the meaning of hard work, it challenged me, but sometimes when I failed, this city picked me up and inspired me. It gave me opportunities I could never have dreamt of, and lead me down paths to friends who are now family.”

Born Edward Kobbina Enninful, the British Vogue Chief grew up in Ghana and moved to Ladbroke Grove, London, along with his parents and five siblings. His mother worked as a seamstress, and inspired him with the vividly patterned colours and fabrics she used while creating clothing for her British-Ghanaian friends.
