COVID-19: Ghana’s President bans weddings and parties until further notice

Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, the President of Ghana has placed a ban on funerals, weddings and parties until further notice.

He made the announcement in his 23rd address to the nation on the measures being taken to bridle the spread of the Coronavirus.

The President in his address, stated that there has been a massive spike in the number of cases.

He stated that, the infection rate has now increased from 200 recorded cases to 700 recorded cases daily.

“So, until further notice, funerals, weddings, concerts, theatrical performances, and parties are banned. Private burials, with no more than 25 people, can take place, with the enforcement of the social distancing, hygiene and mask-wearing protocols.” He said.

The ban’s untold effects on the wedding and event planning industry

It goes without saying that this ban will take money out of the pockets of many event and wedding planners and coordinators as well as some actors and performers.

Even though the President stated that private burials can take place with not more than 25 people in attendance, many people will be suffering a loss. This is because many events that were booked for early February and have been paid for now have to be canceled.

Availability of vaccines

In his address, the President made mention of vaccines being available in Ghana as early as March.

Which brings to mind the question of how these vaccines will be distributed once they arrive. What are your thoughts? Don’t hesitate to let us know.
