If you’re Ghanaian, chances are you’ve heard of the National Science and Maths Quiz, popularly known as the NSMQ.
Formerly known as the Brilliant Science and Maths Quiz, the program features various senior high schools competing for the ultimate title as Science and Mathematics quiz champions.
Organizers of the show, Prime Time Ghana have over the years made it a tradition to only use female moderators in the show.
Professors Marian Ewurama Addy and Dr Eureka Emefa Adomako have had the privilege to be quiz mistresses.
Currently, Dr Elsie Effah Kaufmann is the quiz mistress of the show. She has operated in that role for the past 10 years and heads a team of consultants including Prof. W. A. Asomaning, Dr Ebenezer Owusu, Dr Amos Kuditcher and Dr Douglas Adu-Gyamfi, all of the University of Ghana, Legon.
Due to the hectic nature of the quiz and the various levels involved, new quiz mistress have been introduced to the championship who are all in STEM.
The official NSMQ page describes them as: “A real-life inspiration and on-screen delight, we appreciate all our Quiz Mistresses for bringing panache to the theories and formulae we study.”
