#40andFabulous: All our favourite looks of birthday girl and Second Lady Samira Bawumia

As the wife of Ghana’s Vice-President, Hajia Mrs. Samira Bawumia is a figure who is constantly in the public eye and expected to look professional and elegant.

However, her conservative Islamic background coupled with a few protocols can be an impediment on her style sometimes. Samira, a hijabista’s (Hijabi +Fashionista) personal style is an interesting combination of modern, eccentric yet traditional pieces which has won her many avowed fans and a few enemies who feel she doesn’t represent the ideal muslim woman.

The daughter of a Ghana politician, Samira Bawumia was born on the 20th of August, 1980 and attended the Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School as well as the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

A prolific public speaker, she is also a polygot who is fluent in English, Ewe, Ga, Twi, Fanti and Mamprusi. But what makes her the apple of the Ghanaian public’s eye is how she’s showed up to National events and other official capacities.

A leading patron of the Wear Ghana campaign, an initiative by the government to encourage more Ghanaians to patronize made in Ghana products, she’s worked with some local designers including Velma’s Accessories, Pistis, Yartel and Stylista Ghana to create jaw-dropping looks that have become trends for Ghanaian women regardless of their religion.

For these designers it’s boosted their PR, marketing and public portfolio as their works are considered to be of high quality for a powerful woman like her to be see in them.

It is safe to say she is an influencer and currently Ghana’s most stylish woman.
