Say hello to the 8 Ghanaian female models taking 2020 by storm

The fashion and modelling industry in Ghana is more vibrant today than it ever was and it all thanks to the designers and models who do their best to take the industry places.

With social media, we’ve seen a spike in interest in the modelling industry, with an Instagram account and a pretty face, you’re pretty much set to go but here are 9 fierce female models on top of their game.

1. Laurie Frempong

The dark-skinned model is also a blogger and a nurse and has incorporated her natural hair into her signature look. In an interview from 2016, Laurie says “I’ve been passionate about fashion and modelling for a long time. I knew there were challenges in the industry, but nothing good comes easy. I love what I do, and I know with hard work, we can all make it a well-recognized and respected profession”

Misjulee is as high fashion as they come here in Ghana and is well known for her edgy shoots and expertly curated Instagram.

3. Victoria Michaels

She’s known internationally as a fashion icon, red carpet diva, model, influencer, and ambassador for multiple brands and has been featured in major publications like CANOE, Vogue Italia, O Yes!, Enjoy and Mirror. She made history as the first Ghanaian and only black model to walk for Luisa Beccaria during the Spring/Summer fashion season.

4. Gina Akala

If you’re a keen fashion and photography enthusiast on social media you must have seen and heard of the gorgeous gazelle-like creature known as Gina Akala. Both a fashion designer and a model, she has worked with several creatives and photographers home and abroad and has been featured in music videos for Tiffany and  VVIP and also starred in commercials, look books, promos for brands worldwide.

5. Roselyn Ashkar

Former Miss Malaika contestant and Ghana’s first representative on Oluchi’s Africa’s Next Top model,  she begun her career in the industry in 2009 as one of the top-listed models for renowned modelling agency, EXOPA. Throughout the years she has graced the pages on international magazines and has been described as one of Ghana’s hottest exports.

Black skin models matter a lot and Sherifa was the iconic poster girl for this movement. She made a lasting impression on fashion insiders inn 2019. In 2020, she’s bound to cause a lot of stir in the fashion industry.

8. Brigitte Appiah

You got nothing on Lightville cover girl, Brigitte Appiah who also happens to have chalked a Vogue feature this year. The Fuse represented model as also a regular on editorials and runways in 2019. In 2020, she’s bound to take Africa and the world by storm. Run and take cover.

9. Napari Aisha

Napari Aisha got tongues wagging over her Vogue feature in 2019, Mode magazine cover, an Essence 50th Anniversary editorial and plus a list of other very important modelling gigs. She’s currently based in South Africa and she’s killing it there too.
