In the magazine, Rihanna looks stunning in a series of original photo collages that were produced by genius of visual artist and photographer, Lorna Simpson.
The 12- paged portfolio is titled “Of Earth & Sky”. It astonishingly portrays the 32 year old singer in picturesque locations against the galaxy and in feathered headwear and heels while on the London Bridge. The images are so raw to the extent that they seem like paintings .
Rihanna and Lorna seem to share the same tenets when it comes to using their work to explore representation, identity, gender, race and history. They gave their best on this project and we are totally here for it.
Speaking to Essence Magazine, Rihanna described Lorna Simpson as a legend. Further stating that she was very nervous to get in touch about working together.
“Honestly, I just didn’t think I could get her. But I like reaching for the stars and I like challenging myself,” Rihanna had said.
Lorna also expressed how elated she was to have the amazing opportunity to work with Essence and the influential Rihanna. She described Rihanna as “an extraordinary force of nature.”
The producers undertook this project in studios while observing all COVID 19 Protocols.
We hope this is the first of many collabs that the two visionaries will be working on.
