Three former students of the Wesley Girls High School (Gey Hey) in Cape Coast have been adjudged the top candidates of the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The 3 students; Melisa Abena Okyerewaa Amoah, Nana Adwoa Agyemang Sereboo and Ewurabena Esiboaba Cudjoe emerged the Overall Best Student, the first runner-up and the second runner-up respectively.
Melisa Okyerewaa and Nana Adwoa Sereboo were second and third, respectively out of over 1.9 million candidates from the five WAEC member countries who sat for the exams last year.
The first prize winner attained a total score of 624.9826 whiles the second prize winner also scored 624.8876, with the third prize winner obtaining 624.4552.

Melisa Abena Okyerewaa who is currently a student of the Ashesi University also won the “Best Candidate in General Science” Programme.
Nana Adwoa Agyemang Sereboo was adjudged ‘Best Candidate in Business Programme whiles Barbara Afenyo won ‘Best Candidate in Visual Arts’
A fourth student, Antoinette Mensah also went home with the “Best Candidate in Home Economics”
Caleb Smith, an old student of Achiomta school was the winner of the best candidate in General Arts and Chief Kwamena Katu from Mfantsipim School won the best candidate in the Technical programme.

The ladies were awarded at the annual WAEC Distinction ceremony which took place at the WAEC Examination Hall in Accra. Present at the ceremony was the Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, Head of the WAEC Ghana Office, Mrs Wendy E. Addy-Lamptey, Headmistress of Wesley Girls and other staff of WAEC.
Wesley Girls‘ High School, Ghana, is an educational institution for girls in Cape Coast, founded in 1836, and named after the founder of Methodism, John Wesley.
