Teen, Zaila Avant-Garde becomes first African American girl winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the USA.

Zaila is the only African American girl to win the championship, and she will be taking $50,000 in cash and prizes back to Louisiana for her spelling acumen. Murraya, a genus of tropical Asian and Australian trees with pinnate leaves and flowers with imbricated petals, was Zaila's winning word.
