Nzulezu listed as part of Africa’s most amazing places to visit by CNN

The village on stills, Nzulezo, one of Ghana’s hotbeds for tourist activities has been mentioned as one of the 30 places to see in Africa by CNN Travel.

An authoritative travel guide, read by people all over the world, CNN Travel listed Nzulezu alongside some of the world’s favorite destination such as South Africa’s Table Mountain, Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe, the Pyramids of Egypt, Mt. Kilimanjaro and The African Renaissance monument in Dakar, Senegal.

“Nzulezo offers a glimpse into what it’s like to live entirely on water. Visitors will want to sample Akpeteshi, one of the best local gins, made from Raffia palm.” the article said.

Located in the Western Region of Ghana, Nzulezu is a testament of Ghana’s local architecture prior to European contact.  The community sits on stills on the Lake Tandane which means “something that is big” in the local parlance.
The structures are made up of wood and raffia with a central walkway and houses located on either side.

You can only get to Nzulezu via a canoe which will take about an hour or 5kmand will be welcomed by the head of the village.

Nzulezu hangs 5ft above thelake level with a school and a church all located in the community.

It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative list on January 17, 2000 under the cultural section for its contribution to anthropology and being one of the few remaining structures of this nation.
