Ghana’s longest-serving Head of State, Jerry John Rawlings went home today after his demise on November 12, 2020.
The state funeral which took place at the Black Star Square was an emotional one that brought the country on its knees.
In a pandemic that has taken the lives of so many Ghanaians, most thought that the event would have seen a meagre attendance due to social distancing but mourners defied all odds to attend the farewell service of the former leader who led two coups and won two keenly contested elections.
Ghana’s President, Nana Akuffo-Addo and the leaders of both the Judiciary and Legislature were present at the event.
Other high profile members of society including NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama and members of the party, JJ Rawlings founded were in full attendance.
Liberia’s President George Weah, Sierra Leonean leader Julius Maada Bio and representatives from the UN and African Union were also present.
Ghanaian photography, Agenda Kobby captured the event in 21 shots that will stay with us forever.
