Ghana’s President goes into a 14-day self-isolation after a person in his close circle tested positive for COVID-19

The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has entered into a 14-day self-isolation after he was exposed to an infected person.

This was announced in a press statement by the Minister of Information, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Saturday evening.

According to Oppong Nkrumah, the President’s self-isolation had already begun on Saturday, July 4, 2020, despite testing negative with the virus.

“On the advice of doctors, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is from today, July 4, 2020, taking a fourteen (14) day precautionary self- isolation measure in compliance with Covid-19 protocols,” the statement announced.

Another portion of the statement revealed that “The President has elected to do so after at least one person within his close circle tested positive for Covid-19 today.”

The President will work from the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House during the self-isolation period.

During the course of the week, several high-profile politicians in his government were revealed to have contracted the virus with a few in ICU and the head of the Forestry Commission passing away.

Ghana first recorded two cases of COVID-19 on 12 March 2020, when two infected people returned from Norway and Turkey.
